Renowned Hindi writer Mridula Sinha succeeded B V Wancho as first woman Governor of Goa. Sinha was born at Chhapra village in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar in 1942. She started her career as a college lecturer at S K Sinha Women s College, Motihari in Bihar and later became principal of Bharatiya Shishu Mandir at Muzaffarpur. With the encouragement from her husband Dr Ram Kripal Sinha, she started writing short stories including Sakshatkar , Ek Diye Ki Diwali , Apna Jeevan etc. Gradually, she honed her writing skill and had greatly contributed to the literary world which include novels such as Jyon mehandi ko rang , Nayi Devyani , Gharwaas , Sita puni boli ; essays such as Aine ke saamne , Maanvi ke Naate and Bihar Ki Lok Kathaye for children. She has also written a biography on late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia. She also writes regular columns in various national and regional Hindi newspapers, magazines and periodicals.
Her interest and commitment towards social welfare led her to the chairmanship of Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB), Ministry of Human Resource Development. In her political career she had never contested any election but she actively participated in Samagra Kranti led by Jai Prakash Narayan. Until August 2014, she was a member of the national executive of BJP and during the BJP s campaign for 2014 general election, she was in-charge of the BJP Mahila Morcha (women s wing). |
